Carol Rae Futch Burns, age 87, of Burgaw passed peacefully from her earthly life  Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at her home.

She was born on September 16, 1933 in Pender County to George Winter Futch and Eunice Byrd Futch. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Beverly Clark Mason; and former spouse/friend, Ferman Burns..

Carol is survived by her daughters, Sherlynn Burns Richardson and Caroleigh Burns; grandchildren, Ashleigh Sholar and Seth Sholar and wife, Carol Luanne; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Shafer and husband, Ryan and Kristen Mason; sister, Christine Futch Hamilton; niece, Patricia "Patti" Hamilton; and numerous cousins.

Many will remember Carol's efficiency as a unit secretary at Pender Memorial Hospital where she was employed for many years.

Carol's joy in life was her beloved family. In years past Carol enjoyed the beach, her little beach mobile home, and her beach group of friends.  Her radiant smile brought sunshine into the lives of all who knew her.

A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Burgaw Cemetery with Reverend Merrell McKoy officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the graveside service.

To Pearlene Wells and Decilla Byrd, Carol's dear friends and wonderful caregivers,  "There are not words to express our heartfelt thanks for the love and gentle care that you both so willing gave to our dear Carol."
