Obituary

Carolyn Sholar Norwood, age 71, of Currie passed from her earthly life peacefully on Thursday, March 13 at Pend-Du Rest Home.

She was born May 29, 1942 in Wilmington, one of five children born to Herman Clayton Sholar and Norma Jean Bond Sholar. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Major Theodore Norwood and her brother, Billy Ray Sholar.

Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Sonia Horrell Gray (Craig) of Wallace and Teresa Horrell Brahms (Richard) of Currie; sons, Michael Horrell, Jr. (Miranda) of Kansas and Larry Horrell (Carol Shepard) of Wilmington; grandchildren, Amanda Gray Foy (David), Emily Horrell, Ashley Horrell Powell (Matt), Adam Gray, and Allison Horrell; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy S. Pierce (Randle) and Glenda S. Jenkins (Billy) both of Wallace and Barbara. S. Williams (Willis) of Jacksonville; and many nieces, nephews and extended family who all loved Carolyn.

For many years Carolyn enjoyed her profession as a beautician. With Carolyn her family always came first with her love, her caring and her gentle spirit. Carolyn had a kind heart, a cheerful smile and a feisty sense of humor that could brighten any rainy day. Carolyn blessed the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of faith, hope and love.

Funeral Service will be held at Quinn Mc-Gowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. with The Rev. Durwood Maready officiatiing. Following the service the family will receive friends at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at the home of Doug and Winnie Bond.

Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, at Riverview Memorial Park.
