Obituary

Catherine Johnson Jones, age 93, of Wallace has fought the fight, kept the faith and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as of Friday, August 14, 2020.

She was born on December 12, 1926 in Duplin County. She was one of 10 children born to Jack and Nursie Reeves Johnson.  Catherine is predeceased by her devoted husband, Buster Jones; and siblings, Eloise Johnson, Jack Johnson, Ruby Lee Wallace, Hattie Murray,  Dorothy Giddings and James Edward Johnson.

Catherine was a lifelong and faithful member of the Wallace Pentecostal Holiness Church where she served as Secretary of the church for numerous years.   She was employed with Pender Memorial Hospital as switchboard operator for over 25 years as well as an income tax preparer for H & R Block for 42 years until she reached the age of 91. Catherine was the "Avon Lady" for many years. She grew and sold peanuts during the summers and made enough money to go on the "mountain" trips she took.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her sons, James Earl Jones and wife Viola of Leland and Harvey Lee Jones and wife, Debbie of Wallace; her twin daughters, Sheila Faye Jones and Sheryl Byrd and husband, Michael, all of Wilmington; grandchildren, Gregory Lee Jones and wife, Melissa, Tonia Michelle Baker and husband, Chris, Sherry Jones Donelson and husband, Mike, Jessica Lynn Gantt and husband, James, Megan Renay Pearson and husband, John, Joey Scott Jones, Matthew Mical and Cindy Mical; great grandchildren, Christopher, Emma, Josh, Brennon, Cody, Rylie, Jaymie Lynn, Jackson, Aaron, Austin, Ethan; great great grandchild, Addison; sisters, Mattie Cavenaugh of Rose Hill, Frances Hall  and husband, Billy of Magnolia and Lois Mobley and husband, Harold of Rose Hill; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved her dearly.

Catherine was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister.  She enjoyed the simple things in life but her greatest joy was serving her Lord, her family and her church.   She was a kind woman of uncommon character, beauty and grace who loved her Lord and studied His Word daily.   Catherine enjoyed traveling, reading/studying God's Word, attending church and spending time with her family.  She was a woman of great faith and integrity. Every year Catherine always looked forward to going to her favorite place…the North Carolina Mountains. To say that Catherine was an avid, dedicated Duke Blue Devils fan is an understatement!  She never missed a game and could tell everything that went on with the games.  Most of all, Catherine had an experience and genuine faith in Jesus that kept her throughout the years. Now she is enjoying real life in the presence of the one she loved and lived for.  Catherine will surely be missed but she will never be forgotten. Her family is grateful to God for her Christian example and that He allowed Catherine Jones to be their mother, grandmother, and sister.

Funeral service will be held at 12 o'clock Noon Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Wallace Pentecostal Holiness Church, 311 S. Cumberland Street, Wallace, NC 28466 with her Pastor, the Reverend Bobby Smith officiating.
