Charles Albert Brown, 83, of Surf City, passed from this earthly life to his eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 26, 2023. He was born in Sampson County on October 20,1939 to the late Albert C. and Glyndal Tew Brown. Charles was also preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Joyce A. Brown.

Surviving is his loving and caring son, Charles Anthony Brown and wife, Julie Brown of Wilmington; granddaughter, Brittany Brown Pigford and husband, Carter James Pigford of Wilmington; grandson, Charles Cameron Brown of Wilmington; great grandchildren, Rylee Anne Pigford and Taylor James Pigford; brothers, James Brown and wife, Julie of Surf City, and Danny Brown and wife, Janette of Fayetteville.

Charles was married to the love of his life, Joyce A. Brown for 52 years. Together they owned and operated C&J Cleaners of Burgaw for approximately 38 years. Charles and Joyce took pride in providing great customer service for the community of Burgaw. During their down time they enjoyed hosting family and friends with some of Charles's superior BBQ and grilling techniques. Charles was an avid fisherman, always enjoying a day at the beach or sound fishing with family and friends. During the winter time he had a passion for wood working and during the spring time he enjoyed preparing his garden to share with neighbors. Sunday afternoon Nascar races was one Charle's favorites, always willing to give a run down of highlights of the race. At an early age, Charles served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. No matter where you saw Charles, he always had a smile on his face and welcoming demeanor that was unforgettable. As Charles loved his family as well as his friends he will truly be missed, but there is no doubt that Charles and Joyce are hand in hand and enjoying and sharing the love of one another.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Quinn-McGowen Burgaw Chapel with the Rev. Merrell McKoy officiating. Internment will follow at Riverview Memorial Park. The family of Charles will receive friends two hours prior to the  service, 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
