Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Durwood James, 70, of Wilmington went to be with his Savior on Sunday, September 15, 2024.  He is now resting in the arms of Jesus free from all suffering and pain.

He was born on September 23, 1953, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Charles and Janice (Hobbs) James.

Chuck attended Long Leaf Baptist Church when he was physically able and loved the people in his church.   He was a welder/ship fitter who worked on ships all over the world. He worked on US Navy ships, the Queen Elizabeth 2, and Carnival Cruise ships just to name a few. Chuck was a master storyteller and would captivate his audience with ship stories from all over the world. He had a great sense of humor and would always make everybody laugh. Most of all, Chuck was a kindhearted, generous man, who was loved by many.  As he would say every day, "Today's a good day".

Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Streeter; his sons, Corey James, Dustin James; his daughter, Brandy Burney; his sister, Cheryl James Davis; his grandchildren, Tyson Wright, Collin Napier, Bailey James; his great grandchild, Graylyn Wright; cousins, Tom Hobbs and wife, Levon, Champ (Jane) James, Ray James and wife, Helen, Vic (JoAnn) James; his best friend who was like a brother, Donald Jordan; and a host of other family members and friends.

A memorial service will be noon, Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Long Leaf Baptist Church with the Reverend Joshua Riley officiating.

Shared memories and condolences may be sent to the family by selecting Tribute Wall above.
