Obituary

- Charles Dewey Barnhill, age 71, passed away at his home peacefully in his sleep in the early morning as the sun rose on Thursday, July 3, 2008. Dewey, with the help and support of his loving family fought a courageous battle against his Parkinson's Disease.

He was born February 6, 1937 in Rowan Community of Bladen County, the son of the late Lacy Ray Barnhill and Iva Miami Barnhill DeVane. Also remembered is his step-father, R. W. DeVane.

Mr. Barnhill was a faithful member of Riegelwood Baptist Church. For 32 years he was employed with Allied Chemical Company in the maintenance department.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Marie Mitchell Barnhill; son, Mark Barnhill and his wife, Sandy, of Bolton; daughter, Sandra Barnhill Love and her husband, Berry, of Whiteville; grandchildren, Kelly Love and Ri Love; step-grandson, Myka Hall and his wife, Rene`; step-great grandchildren, Chase and Meadow Hall; sister, Carolyn B. Flynn and her husband, Blue, of Atkinson; brother, Danny Wayne Barnhill of Ivanhoe; and several nieces.

The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Riegelwood Baptist Church, one hour prior to the funeral service.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Riegelwood Baptist Church with The Rev. Charles Hester officiating.

Burial will follow in Haw Bluff Baptist Church Cemetery, Kelly.

Casketbearers will be Norman Barnhill, Mike Squires, Jerry Barnhill, Crandell Brown, Terry Mitchell and Bob Mitchell.

Honorary bearers will be the Jeremiah Sunday School Class of Riegelwood Baptist Church.

Flowers are welcome and memorial gifts may be given to Riegelwood Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 568, Riegelwood, NC 28456.

Dewey's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Dewey Bridger III and the staff of Community Home Care and Hospice for the excellent and compassionate care and support given to Dewey and to them.
