Obituary

Charles "Chick" Edward Ferguson, age 87, of Burgaw died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born August 29, 1923 in Columbus, Nebraska and was the son of the late William Cyril and Edna Dunbar Ferguson. Two brothers, Dr. William Ferguson and George R. Ferguson preceded Charles in death.

Charles and Jean Stiver were married August 28, 1948 and have spent 62 happy years together. Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. Jean Stiver Ferguson; son, William "Bill" Edward Ferguson and wife, Merle, of Burgaw; daughters, Savannah McLean of Greeley, Colorado and Edna Kay Ferguson of St. Augustine, Florida; nine grandchildren; two great granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews, including Dr. John Ferguson of Omaha, Nebraska.

Charles attended Hastings College, Hastings, Nebraska where he met Jean, the love of his life. They both transferred to University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Nebraska where they completed under graduate studies and were married. Continuing his education, Charles received his master's degree in biochemistry from the University Of South Dakota Medical School in Vermillion, South Dakota. As you can tell Charles lived to learn. He also attended Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia in the Physician's Assistant Program and attended graduate school at UNC-Chapel Hill.

In Grand Island, Nebraska Charles was a member and officer of B.P.O. Elks, American Legion and V.F.W. His love of small aircrafts brought Charles and Jean to Aviator Lane in Burgaw to live near an air strip where, being a pilot Charles could fly his plane. He was a member of ERCOUP Owner's Club and Experimental Aircraft Association.

Charles was a faithful member of Burgaw Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder as well as in other capacities in the church. Charles was a man of faith who loved and served his Lord, his family and friends. He was loved and will be missed

Memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Burgaw Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. Ray Mendenhall officiating. Following the service the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall.
