Charles Cameron Highsmith, Sr., 95, of Rocky Point, passed from his earthly life Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington.

He was born March 22, 1927 in Pender County, the son of Emmett Highsmith and Effie Page Highsmith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Bordeux Highsmith; son, Robert Allen Highsmith; and siblings, Kathryn Hamerick, James Highsmith and Annie Carlton.

Charles is survived his children, Charles Cameron Highsmith, Jr. (Vickie), Sue Highsmith Helms (Don), William "Bill" Highsmith (Terri), and Pamela Highsmith; eleven  grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren, one great great grandson; and many nieces,  nephews, and other extended family members.    He was a longtime faithful member of Burgaw United Methodist Church and for many years was member of King Solomon Lodge A.F. & A.M. Charles attended NC State University, or as he called it "State College," until he was drafted in the United States Army. He served in Europe during WWII. Upon honorable discharge, he began his professional life at E.C. Highsmith Lumber Company. When the company closed, Charles began farming where he loved to talk to his pigs and ride his tractor. He met the love of his life, Margie Bordeaux, in his early teens when his sister Annie introduced him to her best friend. They were happily married for 62 years. The family is grateful that his final wishes have come true to soar with the birds and dance the jitterbug with Margie.
