Obituary

Charles Edward Jones of Niceville, Florida, passed away on November 26, 2020.

He was born in Willard, North Carolina, on August 3, 1924, to the late John William and Katie Walker Jones. Charles was also preceded in death, by his loving wife of seventy years, Rachel Baker Jones, and his siblings: Tommie Jones, David Jones, Marie Murray, George Jones, Lillie Baker, Daniel Jones and Clayton Jones.

He is survived by his son Charles E. Jones, Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Atlantic Beach, FL; and daughter Kathryn Clark and her husband Horace "Skip" Clark of Niceville, FL; his three grandchildren, Tammy Jones, Christopher Clark and his wife Lauren, and Timothy Clark and his wife Jessica, and nine great-grandchildren, Skylar, John, Adrianna, Morgan, Bennett, Asher, Noah, Lucas, and Charlotte.

Chuck graduated from Penderlea High School in Willard, NC, in 1942. He was a World War II Combat Veteran. He entered the US Army in 1943 where he was assigned to the 28th Reconnaissance Troop (mechanized) of the 28th Infantry Division.  During the Battle of the Bulge, he was taken prisoner of war on December 18, 1944, and returned to military control on April 20, 1945.

Among his other military honors, Chuck was awarded the Legion of Honor Medal, France's highest distinction, and was appointed as Chevalier and Knight in the French Legion of Honor for his valor and service in France during WWII.

He received Bachelors and Masters Accounting Degrees from Strayer College while living in Washington, D.C. and was employed as an auditor for U. S.  Atomic Energy Commission, completing 35 years of Federal Service.

Chuck was a member of the First Baptist Church on Bayshore where he actively participated in Legacy Senior Adults and his Sunday School class.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Riverview Memorial Park in Watha, NC.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon on Friday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Wallace, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations be made to the Benevolent Ministry of the First Baptist Church on Bayshore, Niceville, FL.
