Charlie Edward Blanton, age 90, of Wallace, left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Thursday, October 30, 2014 from Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Care Center.

He was born April 17, 1924 in Pender County and was the son of the late John Bunyon and Rosetta Raynor Blanton. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Ruth Dail Blanton; his brothers, Rudolph Blanton, Everett Blanton, Johnny Blanton, Carroll Blanton, Lummie Blanton and George Blanton and sister, Lessie Mae Batchelor.

Charlie was a member of First Baptist Church of Wallace.

He is survived by his devoted children, Joan Newton and husband, Gerald of Dudley, Danny Blanton and wife, Betsy of Rougemont and Patty B. Brown of Wallace; grandchildren, Tommy, Jeffrey, Brandon, and Sarah; great grandsons, Tyler and Michael; brother, Joe Blanton and wife, Sarah of Wallace and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Charlie was a loving husband and caring father, grandfather and brother. He found great joy in the simplest of things, but his greatest joy was spending time with family, friends and especially his grandchildren. With a big heart and gentle spirit Charlie was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was always available with open arms and hugs for his children and grandchildren. Charlie was a hard worker and very ingenious. He could fix almost everything and invent something to take the place of what he couldn't fix. He was a hard worker and never met a stranger. Being a people's person, he enjoyed going to Hardees to meet with friends and discuss, Wallace, politics and the world situations. A man of great integrity, Charlie never forgot where he had come from and never lost his respect for good and common people. Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved Charlie Blanton.

Memorial service will be at 3:00pm on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel.
