Christian Eric
Lovette
July 30, 2005 – May 23, 2026
Christian Eric Lovette, lovingly known as "Man," entered this world on July 30, 2005, born to Courtney Merritt and Eric Lovette. Though his time here on earth was far too short, the impact Christian made on everyone around him will last forever.
To his family, Christian was a real-life superhero. He was filled with incredible strength, courage, laughter, and an infectious smile that could light up any room he entered. To know "Man" was truly to love him. He had a way of making everyone around him feel warmth, joy, and comfort, even on the hardest days.
Christian earned the nickname "Man" from his beloved sister, Kaylee, and he proudly lived up to that title every single day. He never missed a chance to remind Kaylee that he was "the Man in charge". He would play the occasional prank on his Mama and Gigi, just to see how fast their heart would race. His humor, personality, and loving spirit were unmatched, and the memories he created with those he loved most will forever be cherished.
Christian is survived by his loving mother, Courtney Byrd (Jeremy Byrd); his father, Eric Lovette; his sister, Kaylee Lovette; his maternal grandmother, "Gigi," Pamala Sanderson; his maternal grandfather, Victor Merritt; his paternal grandparents, Ida and Clyde Lovette; his aunts, Brooke Hatcher (Brenton), Amanda Whaley (Nick), and Trudy Stephens; his uncle, Gary Lovette (Darleen); and numerous cousins and extended family members who loved him deeply. Christian is preceded in death by his Papa and great-grandmother, Billy and Ruby Floyd; great-grandmother Novene Merritt;Wanda Merritt; and his uncle, Christopher Merritt.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Christian's care teams, both at home and at UNC and Duke, for the love, compassion, and dedication shown throughout his life. A very special thank you is extended to Ms. Donna Sholar, Ms. Vickie Henderson, and especially his beloved Gigi, Pam Sanderson, for the endless care, devotion, and unconditional love they poured into Christian every single day.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing Christian's light, laughter, and love will continue to shine through every life he touched. His strength inspired us, his smile uplifted us, and his memory will remain forever in our hearts.
