Clarence "Charlie" Jason Brown, Jr., age 67, of Currie passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2010 in Burgaw at the home of his sister, Connie Raysin.

He was born February 16, 1943 in Wilmington and was the son of Josephine Elizabeth Moses Brown of Burgaw and the late Clarence Jason Brown. Also remembered are his sister, Milda Elizabeth Brown Greene and brother, Ashley Henry Brown.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his sister, Connie Cecilia Brown Raysin of Burgaw and several nieces and nephews.

Clarence served faithfully and honorably for ten years in the US Air Force, serving as weatherman in Miami, Florida, Greenland, Africa and two tours of duty in Vietnam. After his military career he worked in an aircraft factory and as a boat captain.

Charlie was a kind and gentle man who loved his family unconditionally and was always there to help in any way that was needed. His family takes comfort in knowing that Charlie accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior before leaving his earthly life. Charlie's passing will leave a void in the lives of all who knew and loved him.

A quote by Charlie, "Sometimes the object of the journey is not the journey its self, but the end."

With heartfelt appreciation a special thank you is extended to Charlie's nephew, James Barnhill, his niece, Ann Corbett, to Peggy Taylor and to the people in the Currie community who so graciously helped to care for Charlie as his health declined.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2010 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with the Rev. Dean Walker officiating.
