Conrad Arthur Costigan, 78, of Rocky Point died Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Quinn Hospice Care Center in Kenansville.
He was born February 23, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Philip and Sonia Ekdahl Costigan. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Agnes Costigan and his wife of one year, Martha Griffin Costigan; and his son, Douglas Costigan.
Conrad is survived by his children, Melanie Dull of Washingtonville, NY, Deborah Gordon of Wilmington, Wendy Madden of Kew Gardens, NY, Jeffrey Costigan of Fresh Meadows, NY, and Wayne Costigan of Loretta, PA; grandchildren, Margaret Dull, Katherine Dull, Abigail Dull, Rebecca Lawrence, Kayla Madden, Sara Costigan, Emily Costigan, and Zachary Costigan; brothers, Phil Costigan and wife, Mary, of Wagoner, OK and Eric Costigan and wife, Jean, of Winston-Salem; and special family, Walter and Faye Griffin of Rocky Point, Paul and Kimberli Trotman of Rocky Point, Rick O'Donnell of Poway, CA and Cindi Anderson of Wilmington.
Conrad served his country honorably in the US Navy, serving on the US Markab.
He worked at various companies as an engineer and spent the last 20 years of his career at Spreading Machine Exchange in New York as engineer, then as plant manager, retiring in 1995. He has 16 patents registered in Washington, DC for various machinery he designed.
His dream to retire in the South was fulfilled and he loved living in NC. Conrad had a love of nature, birds, dogs and cats. Conrad taught so much to so many and positively influenced the lives of many throughout his lifetime. He never met a stranger, loved people and was easy to love.
A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Bear Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Elbert Bradshaw officiating.
Interment of Conrad's cremated remains will be at a later date in All Faiths Cemetery in Middle Village, NY.
