Reverend Cora Lee Horrell, 89, of Rocky Point was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, April 28, 2014. She was in her home being cared for by her loving family.
She was born August 7, 1924 in Pender County, the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary Lula Marshburn Garriss. Also remembered is her husband, Wade L. Horrell; sister, Margie Garriss Ezzell and brother, David Garriss, all who preceded Cora Lee in death.
Cora Lee is survived by her children, Joyce Horrell Futch, Wade L. Horrell, Jr. (Janice), Jearleen Horrell Willetts, Annie Lee Horrell Cribb, Donald Horrell (Carolyn), and Janice Horrell Worrell (M.J.); 18 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 27 great great grandchildren; sister, Lucille Rivenbark; and many extended family and dear friends.
Rev. Cora Lee Horrell preached the Gospel for 63 years, serving as pastor of the Rocky Point Freewill Holiness Church for almost 50 years. She was a member of Trent River Freewill Holiness Association and was named Mother of the Association/Conference in 2003.
Cora Lee loved her family and was such a blessing to each of her loved ones and her wide circle of friends. Her family and friends will always remember the radiant glow and gentle smile that Cora Lee displayed as she preached the Word. She was a shining light for Jesus and Christian example to all.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Willard Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with The Rev. Teresa Ammons, The Rev. Elmer D. Parker and The Rev. Rodney Bonham officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw and at other times will be at the home of Janice and M. J. Worrell, 12490 Ashton Rd., Burgaw.
Cora Lee's life was lived by a simple creed: Do justice, love your neighbor, and walk humbly with God. Her life was devoted to uplifting others. Well done, Thou good and faithful servant, enter into your rest.
