Cornelius "Neil" Walter Maas IV, 66, of Burgaw, NC and formerly of Oak Ridge, NJ passed from his earthly life on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Pender Memorial Hospital in Burgaw.
He was born February 24, 1947 in Paterson, NJ, the son of Emma Drenth Maas and the late Cornelius Maas III.
In Addition to his mother, Neil is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Nancy Jane Smith Maas; daughter, Jennifer Stevens; son, David C. Maas; grandson, Zachary Stevens; sister, Carol VanDyke (Robert); brothers, John Maas (Candy) and Burt Maas (Laurie); and many nieces and nephews.
Neil served his country honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was retired from Jefferson Township Police Department after serving his community for over 25 years. Being an avid motorcycle rider, Neil was a member of the Blue Knights, Chapter IX in Sparta, NJ. In 2012 Neil and Nancy moved to Burgaw, NC where they attended and became a part of the Forest Hills Baptist Church family. Neil was a man of great faith in Jesus Christ, a man of love for his family, and a man of loyalty to his friends, community and country. Amongst the legacies Neil leaves behind are the importance of God, Family and Country; and we must not forget his contribution to the betterment of this world in which we live.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Forest Hills Baptist Church with The Rev. Tim Cook and the Rev. John Maas officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
