Craven Cory Chavis, 31, beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend left this earth way too soon, leaving a big hole in our hearts.

Cory was born November 22, 1985 in Wilmington and died unexpectedly on September 1, 2017.

He is survived by his father, Craven Chavis; mother, Angela Hubbard Chavis (Teyko); siblings, Windy Chavis (Tony), Jamie Corbett (Jonathan), Eric Chavis (Alasha), Shawn Chavis (Becky), Zack Chavis, and Kameron Chavis; nieces and nephews, Steven (Emmy), Tristan, Justin, Madison, Dakota, and Jaden; great nephew and niece, Brycen and Airlie. Corey was loved by many aunts, uncles, extended family and friends. Cory was preceded in death by his niece, Autumn.

Cory was a solemn, gentle soul with everybody! He had no children of his own, but yet if there was a child in arm's reach, Cory had to love on them. To see a child smile made Cory's heart happy. Cory's other passion was cooking and as long as someone wanted to eat he cooked. From a young age he was always a shy, simple person who dearly loved his family. Although he was shy, he managed to be where he was needed, not just for family, but for any one. Being a proud Lumbee Indian, his heritage was very important to him. Cory enjoyed studying about his Lumbee roots. Once you became Cory's friend you were forever in his heart and he in yours. He was loved by many and he will be missed. FLY FREE, BOO!

A memorial service will be at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Minister Sam Lance conducting the service. The family will receive friends following the service.
