Cynthia Lucille Clay Stevens, age 60, of Currie died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.

She was born August 1, 1950 in Brooklyn, New York and was the daughter of the late Thomas Judson and Isabel Magnifico Clay. Also remembered is her beloved husband, Edmond "Eddie" Scott Stevens who died in 2010.

Cynthia is survived by her sister, Carol Caufield (Michael) of Monroe, Connecticut and Baldhead Island, North Carolina; nieces, Cristin Caufield, Rian Caufield, Kellye Caufield and Casey Caufield; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Cynthia graduated from St. John's University in Brooklyn, New York and for many years was employed with the Social Security Administration. For 15 years Eddie and Cynthia were partners in Pildes Optical located on Broadway in Manhattan, New York. After closing the optical business Eddie and Cynthia relocated in rural North Carolina to enjoy a slower and peaceful life style.

Cynthia loved her family dearly, showing her love in her own quiet special way. Enjoying having pets, Cynthia, over the years had several much loved dogs and currently had a cat and a new dog to keep her company after Eddie passed away. Her dogs were treated royally and were loved like family. Cynthia enjoyed life, family gathering and all of God's creations. Her joyful smile and hearty laughter will long be remembered. Cherished memories of Cynthia will remain in our hearts.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2011 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.

Graveside funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Long Bluff Cemetery on Tram Road, Currie, NC with Father Ryszard Kolodziej officiating.
