Obituary

Daisy Stancill Lewis, 90, of Burgaw passed gently from her earthly life on Monday, August 26, 2013 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center.

She was born October 5, 1922 in Greenville to Raymond and Daisy Stancill. In addition to her parents Daisy was preceded in death by her grandson, James Lewis; and son-in-law, David McLendon; sister, Dora Osborne; and brothers, James Robert Stancill and Raymond L. Stancill.

On June 20, 1940, Daisy married J. B. Lewis and they moved to Burgaw in 1952 where together they founded Lewis Sausage Company. Daisy was a faithful member of Burgaw Baptist Church and a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Daisy was a homemaker known for her culinary skills in cooking fried chicken and cornbread. Her love of nature and the outdoors was revealed in her manicured yard which Daisy took great joy in gardening. Daisy was a lady filled with grace, had a radiant smile and an abiding Christian faith.

Daisy is survived by her husband of 73 years, J. B. Lewis; daughter, Ruth L. Taylor (William Ivey Taylor III), Dorothy McLendon; son, James "Jimmy" Bryant Lewis (Linda B. Lewis); grandchildren, Roberta LaSure (Bruce), John William Taylor (Dara), David McLendon (Berta), Elizabeth McLendon and Tammy Horne; great grandchildren, Taylor and Kristen LaSure, Alix, Alarin, Cypress and Moss Taylor, David and Jose McLendon and Nicholas Horne; sister, Annie Mae S. Joyner; and brother, Elma R. Stancill. She is also survived by special nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Daisy will be greatly missed by her loved ones.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Burgaw Baptist Church with The Rev. Nathan Morton and The Rev. Dr. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Burgaw Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the church fellowship hall until hour of the service.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Burgaw Baptist Church, PO Box 385, Burgaw, NC 28425 or to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.
