Dan Edison Baucom, age 79, of Watha and Jacksonville left his earthly life for his eternal rest on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at his home in Watha.
He was born May 14, 1932 in Pender County, the son of the late Henry and Nancy McGowan Baucom. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dorman Baucom and sister, Hazel Hazelwood.
Surviving to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 55 years, Jenette Rivenbark Baucom; sons, Michael Anthony Baucom (Sharon) of Watha, Glenn Edison Baucom (Paulette) of Bonneau, SC and Stuart Lee Baucom (Cheryl) of Watha; grandchildren, Justin Baucom (Emily), Lee Prince, Katherine Connell, Abram Baucom, Victoria Baucom, Brandon Organ, and Kelsi Baucom, brother, Delmon Baucom of PA and many extended family and friends.
Dan was retired after 31 years from NC Agricultural Extension Office, working in Onslow County for 26 years and in Hyde County for five years. He served his country honorably in the US Army and the National Guard, retiring with the rank of Major. Dan performed his undergraduate studies and completed a Master's Degree in Agronomy from NC State University.
Dan was a loving husband and caring daddy, granddaddy and brother who loved his family beyond measure. He was a man of honor and integrity who gave his all to his family and to the communities in which he lived. Dan will be remembered for his genuine smile, love of laughter, faith in the Lord and most of all for his devotion to his family.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Friday, July 29, 2011 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Ray Mendenhall and the Rev W. E. Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park, Watha with the Rev. Dr. Ray Mendenhall and the Rev. Timothy Cook.
Casketbearers will be Phillip Rivenbark, Wright Batson, Larry Rivenbark, Justin Baucom, Brandon Organ, Abram Baucom, Amery Wells and Greg Dunn.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, July 28, 2011 at the funeral home.
