Obituary

Daniel Shields, 66, of Rose Hill left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Sunday, April 21, 2019.

He was born on July 18, 1952 in Sampson County.  He grew up in Pender County and was the son of the late Doris Blanton Tatum.  He was also predeceased by his devoted wife, Pam Bradshaw Shields.

Daniel proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge from service, he began his career with the NC State Prison Dept where he worked until his retirement.  A man of the outdoors, Daniel was served as a member of Appalachian Trail Hiking Club.

Surviving, are his daughters, Aimee McKay and husband, Will of Kenansville and Dana West and husband, David of Watha; his grandchildren, Dylan, Halee, Ethan and Karen; his twin brother, Donnie Shields; and brothers, Ken Shields and Morris "Bubba" Tatum; sister, Hope Barnhill and numerous extended family and friends that loved Danny dearly.

Danny, as he was known, was a kind and caring father who loved his family.  He was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed fishing, hiking and spending time in God's beautiful nature.  Danny was a Boy Scout troop leader for many years and enjoyed leading the boys in positive activities about God, county and nature. He never met a stranger and he loved people.  Danny will be missed but treasured memories will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.  G

Graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Riverview Memorial Park, Watha.
