David Michael
Corbett
Nov 24, 1945 — Dec 17, 2020
David Michael "Mike" Corbett, 75, of Burgaw passed peacefully from his earthly life December 17, 2020 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born November 24, 1945, the son of the late Robert James Sr. "R.J" and Edna Shaw Corbett. Along with his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his infant daughter Leslie Lynn Corbett in 1974 and Brother Bobby Corbett in 1973.
David is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna Squires Corbett of the home and two sons, Brent Corbett and wife Jessica of Watha, NC and Kyle Corbett of the home. Mike had two very special grandchildren, Ethan and Riley Corbett of Watha; brother, Bill Corbett Sr. and wife Brenda of Wilmington; sister, Sylvia Corbett Jacobs of Burgaw; several nieces, nephews, and many extended family and friends.
Being proud of his military service, Mike served in Vietnam in the US Army. He was a member of Burgaw Baptist Church for many years and retired from G.E. after working there for 30 years. Mike was also a member of Frenches Creek Hunting Club and White Oak Hunting Club both in Kelly for many years.
Mike was an extraordinary man of God whose resounding faith and love for family was unmatched. He served his church in the past as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. Those that knew Mike will always remember his passion for the outdoors, hunting and fishing and enjoying spending time at his Camp in Kelly. He was a true example of what it meant to be a Husband, Father, Grandaddy, Brother, and Friend. His presence in our lives will be forever missed but we find solace in knowing he is at peace and rejoicing with his Almighty Father. Mike will be remembered for his quick wit, and great sense of humor.
In an effort to remain safe during this time of the COVID-19 crisis, Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2020 at The Corbett Family Cemetery near the NC Hwy. 210/NC Hwy 11 intersection in Kelly. Social Distancing and Masks are recommended. The Rev. Tom Canady will conduct the service.
