David John Harkness, age 76, passed away on Thursday, November 7th, 2024, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on August 29th, 1948, in Trenton, New Jersey to the late William Downs Harkness and the late Jean Smith Harkness.

Dave attended St. Paul School of Princeton in Princeton, NJ, Notre Dame High School in Lawrence Township, NJ and Harford Community College in Bel Air, MD. He then served in the U.S Army National Guard from 1970 to 1976. Dave, an avid sports fan, enjoyed golf and bowling, and loved his Phillies and Eagles. He enjoyed oldies music and more than anything, spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Betty-Ann Bell Harkness; his daughter, Megan Hart and her husband Dan; his son, David John Harkness II and wife Dana, Scott William Harkness and wife Melissa; his brother, Michael Harkness and his wife Donna; his sister-in-law, Peggy Harkness; and his grandchildren, Charlie Hart, Emma Harkness, Ella Hart, Scotty Harkness II, and David John "Davis" Harkness III; and many other family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Dave was also preceded in death by his brother, William Harkness.

His funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at St. Mark Catholic Church in Wilmington with Fr. Greg Spencer officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in David's memory.
