David James Herring, Jr., 73, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, January 19, 2021. He was born in Rose Hill, NC to David James Herring, Sr. and Juanita Wells Herring.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Bridget Herring and Cynthia Annette Herring, and brother-in-law, Eric Lee.
David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sharon Schweitzer Herring; son, Alex Herring; daughter, Leslie Lowery (Brandon); grandchildren, Dean Lowery and Clara Lowery; sisters, Sherria Crawley (Lawrence), Joyce Lynn Atkinson, Gail Lee, and Sally Spainhour (Randy), and many nieces and nephews.
David graduated from Burgaw High School in 1965. He attended Wilmington College before enlisting in the US Air Force serving in the Vietnam conflict. He retired from the US Post Office after many years as a beloved letter carrier out of Wilmington's Azalea Station. David was a faithful member of Pine Valley United Methodist Church and the Agape Sunday School class. He was always quick with a joke and loved making people smile. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The family will hold a private service, which can be viewed online, at Pine Valley United Methodist Church in Wilmington on Monday, January 25, 2021 at 1:00 pm with Reverend Dr. Tim Reaves officiating. Live streaming will be available at www.pvumc.net.
