David Gordon Johnson, 83, of Wallace died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Brian Center of Wallace.

He was born November 26, 1926 in Sampson County and was the son of the late Allen and Mazzie Bland Johnson.

Mr. Johnson served his country honorably in the US Army during WWII and was a member of Wells Chapel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Mary Lilly Williams Johnson of the home and son, Mitchell Dean Johnson and wife, Anne of Wilmington; grandchildren, Nicole Johnson and Ashley Johnson; sister, Carolyn Spell and husband, Norman of Colonial Heights, Virginia; sister-in-law, Dollie Henderson of Currie; one niece and six nephews.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Wells Chapel Baptist Church with the Reverend Eric Rich officiating.

Burial will follow in church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior the funeral service (1:00 to 2:00 pm) Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Wells Chapel Baptist Church.

David was a devoted husband and caring father and grandfather who loved his family dearly. He was one who worked hard until the job was completed. Being a lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed his garden of tomatoes, cucumbers and other good vegetables. David will be greatly missed but cherished memories of him will be in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
