David Evans Pope, age 75, of Sneads Ferry, passed from this life to his eternal rest on Monday, February 13, 2023 from Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center, after a lengthy illness.

He was born on March 2, 1947 in Duplin County; the son of the late William "Billie" Sunday and Janet Evans Pope.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Daniel "Dan" Pope.

Mr. Pope served his country honorably in the United States Air Force for many years and retired as Colonel.  He was an active volunteer in the Air Force Association in San Antonio, TX for numerous years.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his best friend and wife, Marilyn Owens Roberts; daughter, Gayanne Kimberly Burkes of San Antonio, TX; step-sons, Kevin Schmidt of San Antonio, TX; Jeremy Roberts and wife Barbra of Wilmington and Michael Roberts, also of Wilmington; granddaughters, Sydney Burkes and Maya Bryndis Roberts; grandson,Owen David Roberts; sister, Sara Pope-Pirelli and husband, Eddie of Winston-Salem; sister-in-law, Paula Pope of Ivanhoe; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved David.

David was a loving husband and a caring father, grandfather, brother and friend who loved his family dearly.  He was a social butterfly who loved people and never met a stranger.  David enjoyed cooking, hunting, and spending time with family and friends.  Being an avid golfer, David enjoyed playing golf with numerous friends throughout the years. He was a kind hearted man and would help anyone in need.  He was a proud member of Wallace-Rose Hill High School Class of '65 and was very close to many of his classmates.  David took great pride in staying in touch with many of them over the years.  David will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

There will be a Celebration of Life for David on Friday, March 3, 2023 from 5:00 to 6:30pm at North Shore Country Club in Sneads Ferry, NC.

Inurnment will be held at a later date at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX.
