David Ray Malpass, age 56, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 9, 2023.

He was born on August 4, 1967, in Pender County; the son of the late Carlis and Betty Mae Moore Malpass.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, Brandon Lawson and Tyler Lawson, both of Fort Wayne IN; grandchildren, Brayden Lawson, Kyleigh Lawson, Cashton Lawson and Kassideigh Lawson; brother, Roger Malpass and wife Teresa of Castle Hayne; sisters, Denise Roberts and husband George of Willard, Abigail Williams and husband Milton of Willard and Cherry Jones of Willard; nephew Ron Jones and Carlis Malpass; his fine feathered friend, "Simon" ; and extended family and friends that loved David dearly.

David was a loving father and caring grandfather, brother and uncle.  He was a simple man who enjoyed the simplest things, but his greatest joy was his family.  He was a hard worker who took his work seriously.  David was a talented wood worker and jewelry maker.  He enjoyed mowing, bush-hogging, and feeding the animals.  David had a big heart for animals.  He enjoyed his horses, goats and especially his bird, Simon. David was always willing to help others, especially his siblings whom he loved so much and was loved in return.  He will surely be missed but treasured memories of him will forever remain in the heart of those who knew and loved David.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Riverview Memorial Park in Watha.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
