David Russell
Wood
Sep 4, 1949 — Oct 7, 2021
David Russell Wood, age 72, of Willard, left this earthly life for his home in Heaven on Thursday, October 7, 2021, to be forever with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He was born on September 4, 1949, in Duplin County; the son of the late Harold and Edna Mobley Wood. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Wood.
David was a proud American, who always wanted to be part of the US Armed Forces. He was a lifelong member of Wallace Pentecostal Holiness Church where he was serving on the Administrative Council of the church. David was employed with General Electric for over 40 years. After retirement, he entered Cape Fear Community College where he received his certificate for his HVAC license.
Surviving to cherish David's memory is his best friend and wife of 47 years, Debbie Taylor Wood; his sons, Jamie David Wood of Willard and Seth Garris Wood and wife, Nicole of Wallace; grandchildren, Mayce Kathryn Wood and Gabriel Seth Wood; brothers, Ricky Wood and wife, Lynn of Wallace and Mike Wood and wife, Debbie of Wilson; sister, Debbie Barber and husband, Nicky of Wallace; aunts, Sue Estel and Maxine "Aunt Mac" Lien; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends that loved David dearly.
David was a devoted husband and loving father who dedicated his life to his wife, his children and grandchildren. He was a hard worker and great provider for his family. He made sure that they had everything they needed and a lot of what they wanted. David enjoyed coaching little league baseball, the beach, camping, and hunting. He also enjoyed all kinds of fishing, but mostly flounder gigging. David enjoyed spending time with Jamie and Mayce while fishing in the US Open Fishing Tournaments. He also enjoyed watching Jamie's baseball games and all the sports activities that his granddaughter Mayce participated in. David and Seth were part of American Kick Boxing, where David proudly earned his Black Belt. A lover of music, David loved to sing, and enjoyed attending all the band concerts Seth participated in. He loved his boys and was so proud of the men that have become. David loved Debbie with all his heart. There was never a day that he did not show Debbie his love for her. She was the love of his life. More than anything, David loved his Lord. He was a true child of God who trusted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and served Him faithfully. David will surely be missed but for those who know Jesus, it is not "Goodbye" but "See Ya Later". David's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
