Obituary

Despina Angeliki Horvath, 70, of The Village of St. Helena, Burgaw, passed gently from her earthly life Tuesday evening, March 24, 2015 at Betty Cameron Women and Childrens Hospital at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born August 29, 1944 in Greece, the daughter of the late Constantinos and Eleftheria Arseni. Also remembered is her husband, Joe J. Horvath, Sr. who preceded Despina in death.

Despina is survived by her daughters, Connie Rivenbark (Danny Paul) and Donna Horvath; son, Joe Horvath, Jr.; grandchildren, William Ray, Jr. and Kristina Horvath; great granddaughter, Sabrina Horvath; sister, Xenia Arseni; sisters-in-law, Annie Meszes and Helen Meszes; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was a longtime member of St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church. Many remember Despina as a talented seamstress who for many years had a clothing alteration business in Burgaw.

Not only was Despina a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and sister, but a sharing and generous friend to many. She was gifted in that she was an expert in sewing, needlepoint, crocheting, smocking; making many beautiful things for both family and friends. For years, Despina religiously exercised at Curves and developed lasting friendships with her "Curves family". She will be remembered for her soft spoken words, beautiful smile, faith in her Lord, and most of all for her sweet, sweet spirit.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015 at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church with Father Joseph Ntuwa conducting the service.
