Donald "Donnie" James Godwin, 56, of Burgaw passed gently from his earthly life Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center following a courageous long battle with lung cancer.

He was born April 15, 1965 in Guam, being the son of military parents. Donnie was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy L. Godwin.

Donnie is survived by his mother, Betty Godwin; brothers, Lee Godwin and his wife, Rochelle and John Godwin; life partner of 32 years, Gary Hendricks; one niece; three nephews; and many friends. Not to be left out are canine companions, BamBam and Booger.

Donnie was a devoted son, brother, partner, uncle and loyal friend. Having a green thumb, Donnie enjoyed and excelled in growing plants, flowers, and anything that bloomed. His outgoing personality and love of laughter brought endearing moments to family and friends. Donnie's presence on this earth will surely be missed.
