Donald "Don" Houston Edwards, 71, of Burgaw passed from his earthly life on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at his home surrounded with love by his family.

He was born May 21, 1945 in Pitt County, the son of the late Joseph Stanley and Lillian Houston Edwards.

Don is survived by his wife of 18 years, Cheryl Marie Edwards; sons, Trevor Edwards (Pam) and Christopher Edwards (Amber); grandchildren, Casey Edwards, Hannah Edwards, Cody Edwards, Noah Edwards, and Emmett Edwards; brothers, Jerry Edwards (Kaye) and James Edwards; and many extended family and friends.

Don began his working career as a welder and fabricator in industrial construction. To this day he loved working with metal, often doing small jobs for family and neighbors. For the past 25 years Don has built a successful family business, Don Edwards Carpet Cleaning Company. Don was so proud of his grandsons who will carry on the business. Don has taught them well, so that they may keep Don Edwards Carpet Cleaning open and viable for many years to come. Don was a member of Long Creek Baptist Church.

Family was number one in Don's life. He was active with his family and sons in Scouts, camping trips, and traveling. They loved nothing better than taking motorcycle trips to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Don loved the outdoors, hunting and enjoying all of God's nature. It is said, Don could and did everything from cooking, cleaning, upholstering to fixing most anything. He was a man of many interests and talents who dearly loved his family. Don's departure from this earth has left an empty place at our family table, in his work shop and especially in our hearts.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Dr. David Peterson officiating. Following the service there will be a time of receiving friends and sharing memories.
