Donald "Donnie" Richard Ridenhour, 70, of Riegelwood passed his earthly life on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born December 15, 1943 in Salisbury, the son of Lawrence Ridenhour and Bessie Willmotte Chasen.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sherrill Ridenhour; daughter, Misty Garrell and husband, Michael Garrell of Lake Waccamaw; son, Richard Ridenhour of Riegelwood; granddaughter, Kristen Long of Wilmington; brothers, Eddie Ridenhour and wife, Carolyn of Kelly, Buddy Chasen and George Chasen and wife, Mary all of Fayetteville; and sisters, Becky Hinson and husband, Richard of Stedman, Carrol Brown and husband, Charlie and Martha Sessoms and husband, Charles all of Fayetteville.

Donald served his country honorably as a paratrooper in the US Army. After working 34 years, he was retired from International Paper Company. Donald was a faithful Christian and member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Kelly.

He was a dedicated and caring husband, father, granddaddy, and brother. Playing golf with family and friends was a favorite activity of Donnie's. Everyone enjoyed being invited to eat "Donnie's famous ribs." Donnie will be remembered for his smile, his love for his family and his Christian faith.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Ernie Block and The Rev. Jack Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Hargrove Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Sonny Claytor, Bobby Walsh, Wade Peterson, Danny McDuffie, Bobby Russ and Stanley Baldwin. Honorary bearer will be Jimmy Davis.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
