Donald "Donnie/Doc" Lee Winch, age 53, of Wilmington died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born January 12, 1956 in Little Rock, Arkansas and was the son of the late Donald Ray Winch and Muriel Cluff Winch.

Surviving are Donnie's daughter, Holly Winch who was the light of his life; his step-son, Scott Jordan of Mooresville; his mother, Muriel Winch of Rocky Point; sisters, Joanne Cavenaugh and her husband, Mitchell of Burgaw and Julia Hoy and her husband, Warren of Rocky Point; niece, Wendy Wells and her fiance, Michael Faircloth; nephew, Eric Wells; and Donnie's beloved faithful canine companion, Sam.

Donnie loved his family dearly and most of all his adored daughter. Holly and Donnie enjoyed many happy hours together and especially enjoyed making ceramics. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan. One of his passions in life was studying history and keeping up with current events. He was a quiet gentle man who was happy with the simple things in life. Always loved and forever remembered.

Donald attended Horizon Church in Wilmington where he shared his steadfast faith in Jesus Christ with others.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2009 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Pastor Gary Keyes and Pastor Henry Carroll officiating.

Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
