Obituary

Donna Rae (Rogers) Grinbergs of Wilmington, formerly of Burgaw, passed peacefully from this life on October 31, 2021. Born in 1935 to Earl Rogers and Mary Lewis Rogers in El Centro, California, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 43 years, Andrejs "Andy" Grinbergs, daughter, Cynthia Grinbergs Wooten, and brother Robert Rogers.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay Comentale of Rockville, Maryland, and son, Richard Grinbergs of Clearwater, Florida. Grandchildren include Jessica Lambe (Jamie) of Burgaw, Morgan Heimbach (Rick) of Rocky Point, Andreja Comentale of Laurel, MD, Anthony Comentale of Rockville, Joshua Grinbergs of Westampton, NJ, and Shayna Grinbergs of Voorhes, NJ. She delighted in visits with her great-grandchildren, Caroline, Kenan, and Wolfgang.

Donna worked three decades with the NC Department of Transportation, ending her career as a Risk Manager. As a result of her dedicated service, she was bestowed The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of the most prestigious awards given by the Governor of North Carolina. Following retirement, she volunteered for several years with Lower Cape Fear Hospice, and served in numerous roles at Burgaw Baptist Church, including as the first female deacon. Known for her impeccable style, she had an eye for fashion and was an accomplished seamstress, a talent she shared with her daughters and granddaughters. She loved to share tales of her adventures with Andy from their days on the dairy farm in Gettysburg, PA and travelling across the United States together on their BMW motorcycle.

The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Burgaw Baptist Church with memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Tom Canady will conduct the service.

The family would like to extend its sincere appreciation to friends, neighbors, nurses, and caretakers who assisted Donna during her extended illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401, or to the Baptist Children's Homes of NC, PO Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361.
