Dorcas "Dot" Piner Hicks, 88, of Willard passed gently from her earthly life on wings of angels Sunday, April 26, 2020 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 29, 1932 in Pender County, the daughter of the late Leslie and Gladys Wheeler Piner. Also lovingly remembered is her husband, James Wallace Hicks; daughter Emily Kay McCracken; granddaughter, Jessica Carr; and son-in-law, Lee Howard, all who preceded Dot in death.

Dot is survived by her daughters, Sarah Elizabet Howard, Donna Lynn Carr (Thomas), and June Annette Wood (Lonnie); ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Jarman; many extended family and friends.

Loving the outdoors and all of God's bountiful nature, Dot filled her yard with flowers which were an array of beauty the year around. In years past, Dot had a large vegetable garden every year. With fresh home grown produce it was an understatement that Dot was a fabulous cook. Many remember the loving care that Dot gave the children that she cared for while their mothers were working. Most of all Dot loved and cared for her family as she was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Dot's sweet spirit and beautiful smile will be remembered.

Because of the current health issues in our country a graveside service for immediate family will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at Potts Memorial Church Cemetery with The Rev. Dean Walker conducting the service.
