Doris Spencer Clewis, age 85, of Pender County died Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Cypress Pointe Health Care Centre in Wilmington.

She was born July 17, 1923 in Pender County, the daughter of the late Hessie Alton and Rose Lee Holly Cottle. She was predeceased by her husband, Harvey Roy Spencer and later married Jeff Allen Clewis, who died in 1996.

Surviving are her devoted daughters, Faye Marley (Isaac) of Currie, Shirley Mills (Kenneth) of Chesapeake, Va. and Janet Bowen (Mark) of Pinetown; grandchildren, Roy Marley (Frankie), Angela Midgette (Travis), Theresa Hyler (Brian), Melinda Jones, Lisa Mason and Maria Perry (Ron); eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and brothers, Rev. Morris Cottle of Charleston, SC, Linwood Cottle of West Barnstable, Mass. and Kenneth Cottle of Castle Hayne.

Doris loved her family dearly and was a cherished wife, mama, grandmama,granny,sister and friend. Fond memories of Doris will forever remain in our hearts.

She was a member of Long Creek Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Bateman officiating.

Burial will follow in Point Caswell Baptist Church Cemetery, Atkinson.

Casketbearers will be Rock Marley, T. J. Midgette, Travis Midgette, Jeff Small, Brian Hyler and Kevin Beal.

The family will receive friends Friday 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
