Doris Ann Cowan, 88, of Wilmington passed away on Saturday, Aug 26, 2023, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington.

She was born on October 6, 1934, in Batavia, NY, to the late John and Lois (Klem) Brightenfield.

Doris, a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church in Wilmington, loved reading her bible daily. She was an avid knitter and enjoyed crocheting. Doris also loved animals, especially her cat, Macks. She was a bright light many and will be missed greatly.

Doris is survived by her son, Michael Cowan; her daughter, Becky Cowan Justice (Charlie); her sister, Marie Baker; her grandchildren, Russ Johns (Karla), Justin Justice (Abbey); her great grandchild, Tinsley Nichole Justice and one arriving soon, Paisley Chevelle Justice; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Doris was also preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Cowan.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Southside Baptist Church in Wilmington with Pastor Kelly Stanley officiating.
