Obituary

Doris M. Mills, age 99, of Wallace, NC and formerly of Fort Wayne, IN left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Saturday, April 1, 2017 from Dayspring of Wallace, NC.

She was born June 17, 1917 in Cairo, OH and was the daughter of the late John D. and Norma Miller Jones. She was also predeceased by her loving husband, Earl E. Mills; sisters, Jeanette Zeppering and Norma J. Coleman and brother, Charles W. Jones.
Mrs. Mills was a member of American Legion Post 241 Auxiliary and Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, IN.

Surviving are her children, Douglas S. Mills (Elisa) of Dallas, TX, Cheryl L. Faulkner of Fort Pierce, FL and Candace M. Knowles (Harvey) of Wallace; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothers, Jack D. Jones of The Villages, FL and Robert L. Jones of Summerville, SC and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Doris was a loving mother, grandmother and sister who loved her family dearly. She enjoyed the simplest things in life but her greatest joy was family. She moved to Wallace in April, 2007 where she lived with Candace and Harvey until April, 2013, and then went to live at Dayspring. Doris was a woman of uncommon character, beauty and grace; and to those who knew her, "an instrument of God's love on this earth." Doris was a friend to all, a strong yet gentle presence who looked for and encouraged the best in everyone. She was always 'prim and proper' with her complete makeup on and always dressed up. Her motto for living was, "Think positive and pray a lot". Doris will be missed but cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Wallace Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Phillip Gladden officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

There will be a graveside service at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 inside the chapel at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, IN.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be sent to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 1819 Reservation Drive, Fort Wayne, IN 46819-2000.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Dayspring for the compassionate care they gave to their mother and the kindness they showed to her and to her family.
