Doris Elizabeth Jenkins Wooten, 81, of Maple Hill was born in Duplin County and was the daughter of the late Hannah Thigpen Jenkins and Linster William Jenkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Jarriott Wooten; her twin sister, Dorothy, who died in infancy; sisters, Margaret Hunter Huffman and Macy Lanier Futrell; and brother, Earl Jenkins.
Doris is survived by her loving family; her sons, Larry Bernard Wooten (Laura) of Raleigh, Henry Allen Wooten (Joyce) of Burgaw; and Paul Glenn Wooten (Sheri) of North Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Kevin Wooten (Wendy) of Raleigh, Shelley Thomas (Anthony) of Wilmington, Wesley Wooten of Wilmington, Amanda Wooten of Savannah, GA, Leslie Washburn (Derek) of Raleigh, Natalie Wooten of Charleston, SC, Meredith Wooten of Wilmington, Jason and Seth Hager of North Myrtle Beach, SC; "the babies", GiGi's great grandchildren, Hannah and Carter Wooten and June and Caroline Thomas; sisters, Pauline Mobley of Cypress Creek and Reba Bryant of Jacksonville; and brothers, Vernon Jenkins (Mildred) and Floyd Jenkins both of Cypress Creek.
First and foremost, Doris was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Mrs. Wooten's belief in the benefits of 4-H and Extension Homemakers led to volunteer service and to employment with the NC Cooperative Extension Service in the Food and Nutrition Program. She also worked with the Pender County Tax Office and Farrior's Department Store in Burgaw.
A devoted servant of the Lord, Mrs. Wooten was a faithful member of Maple Hill Presbyterian Church for over 50 years where she was a steadfast leader, involved in all aspects of church life. Her beloved community of Maple Hill was the beneficiary of her tireless energy and unceasing dedication to its residents and the many activities of this small united community. Doris Wooten was a resilient lady who faced adversity with courage and faith. She blessed countless lives and leaves behind a legacy of strength, love and kindness.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2012 at Maple Hill Presbyterian Church with C.L.P. Richard Wurtzel and Ken Jones officiating. A time of fellowship will follow in the Maple Hill Community Center.
Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at Amos Lanier Cemetery in the Cypress Creek community. Casketbearers will be Bertice Lanier, Mike Lanier, Stacy Wooten, Douglas Hunter, Rex Bryant and Herschel Jenkins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Maple Hill Presbyterian Church, C/O William Marshburn, 14171 NC Hwy 53 E, Maple Hill, NC 28454.
