Dorothy Jane Woodcock Daughtry, 79, of Wilmington and formerly of Long Creek Community in Rocky Point passed gently from her earthly life on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Azalea Health and Rehabilitation.

She was born February 24, 1934 in Pender County, the daughter of the late Oliver Floyd and Effie Maude Malpass Woodcock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kirby Daughtry; son, Ronald Wade Daughtry; sister, Margaret Malpass and brothers, Oliver F. Woodcock and Robert "Buck" Woodcock.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Patricia D. Kidd (Robert) of Wilmington and Connie Anne Daughtry (Heather) of Winnabow; son, Kirby Eugene Daughtry (Janice) of Montague Community and grandchildren, Jonathan Kidd and Kimberlee Kidd; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Bear Branch Baptist Church. Dorothy was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She found great joy in the simplest of things, but her greatest joy was family. She loved playing Bingo and was noted for her red lipstick and fingernail polish. In her younger years she enjoyed the family vegetable garden and was an exceptional seamstress, making many of her children's clothes. Her gentle smile, warm heart and caring nature will be remembered.

Graveside funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Woodcock Cemetery, Rooks Road, Atkinson with The Rev. Wayne Bateman officiating.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
