Obituary

Dorothy \\"Dot\\" Clay Brown, 89, of Wilmington went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 3, 2011 at her home.

She was born July 31, 1922 in Enfield, the daughter of the late Benjamin Morris Clay and Olivia Clay Pridgen. Also remembered are Gordon Pridgen, who married Olivia and helped raise Dorothy and her siblings after their daddy died at an early age; Dorothy's beloved husband of 51 years, Theodore Carson Brown; and brothers, Judson Clay and Freddie Pridgen.

Dorothy is survived by her loving family: sons and daughters-in-law, Theodore C. "Teddy" and Nita Brown, Jr. of Currie and Benjamin Daniel "Benny" and Karen Brown of Surf City; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Frank Teti of Kure Beach; grandchildren, Kristen Johnson ( Wesley), Wendy Cheek (Rick), Lisa Naylor, Daniel Brown and Shannon Teti; great grandchildren, Cody Johnson, Katelyn Jernigan, Jonathan Jernigan, Carson Cheek, Ryan Cheek and Josie Wachowiak; sister, JoAnn Davis and brothers, Ben Clay and Billy Pridgen.

Dorothy was a life long faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. For many years she was a beautician in Wilmington.

Dorothy was a devoted wife and the best mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who loved all unconditionally. She loved and served the Lord all of her life. To the family she nurtured and those who counted her as a friend, Dorothy was greatly admired for her creative talents, energy, enthusiasm, sense of humor and bright smile. Cherished memories of Dorothy will live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Horace Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Casketbearers will be Wesley Johnson, Cody Johnson, Rick Cheek, Paul Pridgen, Steve Coleman, Tommy Pridgen and Johnny Brown. Honorary bearers will be Robert Stallings, Robert Anderson, Lyn Blizzard and Billy Arthur.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home of Teddy and Nita Brown in Currie.
