Obituary

Dorothy Mae Davis Woodcock, 90, of Burgaw and formerly of Atkinson passed gently from her earthly life Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born February 21, 1933 in Wilson County, the daughter of Joseph Ruffin Davis and Mattie Lee Johnson Davis. In addition to her parents Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William Harris Woodcock, Sr.; son, Festus Henry Woodcock; brother, William Davis; sisters, Alma Moody, Eula Gray, Mildred Davis, Rose Tyndall, Cornelia DuPalevich and Doris Costin; granddaughter, Carol Rembert; and two great grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her son, William Harris Woodcock, Jr. (Angie); daughters, Brenda Gale Baker (Douglas) and Debra Lynn Malloy (Andrew); grandchildren; Crystal Brown, Sherry McLean (Robert), Dale Zurcher, Jr. (Alicia), Michael Zurcher (Christina), Justin Woodcock (Kelsey), Aaron Woodcock (Carolyn), and Joshua Futrall (Natalie); nine great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dorothy was truly a Christian lady and a longtime member of Shiloh Baptist Church and Forest Hills Baptist Church. Being a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and sister, Dorothy filled her home with love, joy and good cooking. Dorothy sewed her children's clothes, made quilts and many other things. In her later years Dorothy enjoyed making crafts and shared the fruits of her labors with family and friends. Dorothy's hands were never idle. At her home at The Laurels of Pender Dorothy was a favorite among staff and patients. She brought joy, chuckles, and sunshine into each day, everywhere she went. Dorothy was a much loved lady and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dorothy will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with the Rev. Merrell McKoy officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
