Dr. Max Greene Hamilton, age 86, of Williston, SC, died Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Heartland Hospice in Augusta, GA.
He was born March 5, 1922 in Marshville, NC and was the son of the late James Baxter and Effie Greene Hamilton. He was also preceded in death by brothers, William Carroll Hamilton and Lt. J. B. Hamilton, Jr. and brother-in-law, Harvey Batson.
Dr. Hamilton received his undergraduate Batchelor of Science Degree from NC State University and his PhD from Cornell University. In 1988 he retired as a research professor at Clemson University. Serving his country honorably in the US Army during WW II, he was a veteran of the Pacific Theater. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Williston.
Max was a man of honor and integrity who served his Lord, his family and his community unceasingly with great diligence. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
Dr. Hamilton is survived by his wife of 61 years, Christine Futch Hamilton of the home; daughter, Patricia Ann Hamilton of Williston, SC; sister, Elizabeth Batson of Burgaw, NC; brother, Harry M. Hamilton (Mary) of Raleigh, NC; sisters-in-law, Faye Hamilton of Wilmington, NC and Carol Burns of Burgaw, NC; nieces, Janet Blanton of Wilmington, NC, Nancy Mizelle (Bill) of Milledgeville, GA, Sherlynn Richardson (Archie) of Currie, NC, Caroleigh Sholar (Joe) of Wallace, NC, and Margaret Williams (Paul) of Charlotte, NC; nephew, Harry Marsh Hamilton of Raleigh, NC; and several great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
A graveside funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Riverview Memorial Park with The Rev. Mark Rogers officiating.
Casketbearers were Bill Mizelle, Lawrence Blanton, Tom Futch and Harry Marsh Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to the Salvation Army, PO Box 90, Wilmington, NC 28402.
