Walter "Doc" Terry Rogers, 81, passed gently from his earthly life on Monday, March 24, 2014 at home. He was born April 28, 1932 in Baltimore, MD to Stanley Francis Rogers and Mary Elizabeth Rogers Fortune. In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his son, Kris Staver Rogers.
Terry is survived by his wife, Bonnie Crawford Rogers and daughter, Kia Rogers of New York, NY.
Terry served his county honorably in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. Following completion of his military duty, Terry received his doctorate degree in theater from Florida State University, becoming Dr. Walter Terry Rogers, PhD. His main focus and joy in life was teaching theater at UNC-W from 1968 to retiring in 2000. He was devoted to his students and directed many plays in the academic theater during his tenure at UNC-W.
Terry lived a full and robust life. He was an avid softball player and in his latter years enjoyed playing with the Men's Senior Softball League in Wilmington. Living near the ocean was a real plus for Terry as he loved the beach. As a lover of animals, Terry had two Dalmatian dogs and many cats. Terry leaves treasured memories of his zest for life, his love for his family, and his dedication to teaching.
Respecting Terry's wishes there will be no services commemorating his passing.
In lieu of flowers a memorial gift in Terry's honor and memory may be given to Terry Rogers Award in Theater at UNC-W, C/O Advancement Services, 601 S. College Rd, Wilmington, NC 28403-5905 or to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physician's Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
