Dulan Earl Murray, Sr., 79, of Wallace left his earthly life for his eternal rest on Monday, September 8, 2014 from New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born January 4, 1935 in Duplin County; the son of the late Henry Steve and Fannie Geneva Merritt Murray. He was also predeceased by his son, Sgt. Dulan Earl Murray, Jr.; and brothers, Floyd Murray, Thomas Murray and Howard Murray, Sr.
Dulan is survived by his best friend and wife of 17 years, Billie Griffin Murray; his loving daughter, Lynne M. Carr-Wiggins and husband, Michael of Shallotte; daughter-in-law, Kim P. Murray of Charlotte; grandchildren, Ethan Sloan Carr, Sami Jo Murray, and Paige Murray Hailey; great granddaughter, Taylor Brooke Griffin; brother, Everette Murray and wife, Gerry of Wallace; step children, Monica H. McLamb and husband, Robbie of Penderlea, Amanda Hanchey of Wallace and Mark Hanchey and wife, Jackie all of Wallace; step grandchildren, Joshua McLamb, Courtney McLamb and Graham Hanchey; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Mr. Murray proudly served his country honorably in the US Air Force and was a member of Wallace American Legion Post 156 and Woodmen of the World. He was a retired transportation officer with the Pender County Department of Corrections. Being a servant, he served his community as a Wallace police officer and was a charter member of Wallace Rescue Squad for many years. Dulan was also manager of Western Sizzlin Steak House where he acquired many friends and acquaintances. He was a dedicated member of Poston Baptist Church.
Dulan was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed the simplest things in life, but his greatest joy was family. With a big heart and gentle spirit, Dulan loved people and was loved in return. He enjoyed spending time with his family, going to church, walking and riding his bicycle. Being a man of great integrity, he lived his life by a simple creed: Do justice, love your neighbor and walk humbly with God. His life was devoted to uplifting and helping others. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter into your rest."
Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Poston Baptist Church with the Reverend Byron Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Wednesday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial gifts be given in Dulan's memory to Poston Baptist Church, 4121 S. NC Hwy 11, Wallace, NC 28466 or to Baptist Childrens Home of NC, PO Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361-0338
