Durwood Lee
Fisher
Jun 10, 1936 — Jan 13, 2023
Durwood Lee Fisher, 86, of Magnolia, left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Friday, January 13, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 10, 1936 in Duplin County; the son of the late Oscar Baines Fisher and Sarah Henderson. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Isabell Stoddard and Carol Fowler.
Durwood served his country honorably in the US Navy and was a member of United Fellowship Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church in Magnolia.
Surviving to cherish his memory, is his best friend and devoted wife of 50 years, Amber Ann Cavenaugh; daughter, Cynthia Ann Stickland of Magnolia and son, Durwood Lee Fisher, Jr (Christopher Huth) of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren, Brittany Strickland, Jessica Strickland, Joshua Strickland, and Michael Strickland; great grandchildren, Jayden Strickland, Nathaniel Strickland and baby-on-the-way, Summer Ann Strickland; sister, Tiny Holloman (Ronald) of Princeton; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved Durwood dearly.
Durwood was a kind hearted and compassionate husband, father, grandfather and brother who loved his family dearly. He was a man of many trades, never idle, but always busy doing something constructive. When Durwood was young, he ran away from home and joined the circus. He started out selling popcorn but later was promoted to being a clown and later to being a trapeze artist. From this experience, Durwood started his own clown ministry, "Ruffles the Clown". One can see what a great sense of humor Durwood had and that he loved people. He was a master of numerous things such as photography where he had his own studio in the washroom of his home and later in the town of Wallace. He made himself a nursery and grew flowers to sell. Durwood also had a great calling of God on his life and he pastored many churches. Among those he pastored were Oak Grove PFWB, Beulah PFWB, Bethelhem PFWB, Welcome PFWB and others in North Carolina. At the age of 55, Durwood went back to school and made the Dean's list and received his batchelor's degree. He was very proud of his teaching job which was teaching Pre-GED to inmates at the Duplin County Correctional facility sponsored thru James Sprunt Community College. Durwood had a heart for the disadvantaged and underpriviledge people. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He was also a proud newspaper reporter for the Wallace Enterprise for many years. When Durwood was not so busy doing all the things above, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family. Most of all Durwood loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His favorite book was the Bible. He read and studied it regularly and became very intelligent about its contents. Durwood will surely be missed but only eternity will tell how many people he reached during his earthly life for the kingdom of God. He has now run the race and finished his course. Certainly there are crowns waiting for him in Heaven.
