E. Burton Myers
On Saturday evening, July 27, 2013, Everett Burton Myers of Wilmington, NC peacefully passed from this life to his eternal home.
He was born in Portsmouth, VA on August 4, 1915 to the late Everett Grover Myers and Armalee Eason Myers Smith. Burton grew up in Washington, NC and went on to attend Wake Forest College and Norfolk Business College earning a degree in Accounting. He lost his father at an early age and was a dedicated provider for the needs of his widowed mother. He served with honors in the US Army's Adjutant General's Department during World War II as a Staff Sergeant stationed in the South Pacific. After 43 years with Smith Douglass Fertilizer, a division of Borden, Inc., he retired in 1980 as the Field Auditor.
As a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist church, he loved the many years he served as the "Church Greeter". In the years of his retirement and for as long as his health permitted he was an avid "walker", sometimes walking five miles a day. He enjoyed so much talking and laughing with the many people he met along the way. He never met a stranger.
Surviving and cherishing our memories are his beloved wife, Doris Lane Myers, his son Gary Myers and wife Belinda, his grandson Joel Myers and wife Stephanie and grandson Gavin Myers. Burton was a loving husband, caring father and grandfather who deeply cherished his family and was always, always there for us all, whatever the need. He showed us that you can embrace aging with a good attitude, without complaining and with a great sense of humor and lots of smiles even if his day wasn't going so well. We will miss that.
Our family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Davis Health Care Center for their kindness, compassion and great care of our loved one and also to all those family, friends, and neighbors for their love and acts of kindness and thoughtfulness, many blessings. Thank you all!
