Earl Holmes
Murphy
Sep 15, 1931 — Apr 16, 2020
Earl Holmes Murphy, age 88, of Rose Hill left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Thursday, April 16, 2020.
He was born on September 15, 1931 in Onslow County; the son of the late Jesse Holmes and Ora Mae Hollis Murphy.
Earl served his country in the US National Guard and was a life time member of Bethel Wesleyan Church. He was a founding member of the Greenevers Fire Department and was a town commissioner for Greenevers for many many years.
Surviving to cherish his memory, is his best friend and wife of 66 years, Jessie Cottle Murphy of the home; daughter Jennifer D. Murphy of the home, Randall Murphy and wife, Susan of Castle Hayne, Timothy Murphy and wife, Mary of Rose Hill, Patrick Murphy and wife, Charlene of Beulaville, Tracy Murphy and wife, Sandy of Rose Hill; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; sister, Frieda Sanderson and husband, Roy of Wallace and numerous extended family and friends that loved Earl dearly.
Earl was a devoted husband and caring daddy, granddaddy and brother. He found great joy in the simplest things, but his greatest joy was family. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. Early in life Earl wanted to be a farmer. He worked very hard trying to farm but found out that farming wasn't for him. He then went to work with Murphy Farms as a crew manager and worked until his health would not let him. Earl loved the outdoors and it was hard to keep him inside. When his health permitted, he was always busy doing something around the yard. He enjoyed being outdoors especially riding his golf cart and tractor with his 'Grand dogs'. Earl loved people and was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. He drove many miles to get oysters for many around the Wallace and Rose Hill area. Earl will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Due to the Covid-19, there will be a memorial service later.
