Obituary

Edith Brown Gattis, age 87, passed peacefully from her earthly life to her eternal rest on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Pender Memorial Hospital.

She was born November 15, 1924 in Duplin County, the daughter of the late Tracy and Mora Carr Brown. Also remembered are her husband of 28 years, William E. Gattis; brother, Eldon Brown and sister, Helen Johnson all who preceded Edith in death.

Edith is survived by her daughter, Catherine Gattis Harrell and husband, Samuel of Burgaw; son, Kenneth Gattis; grandchildren, Lisa Catherine Harrell and Lauren Harrell Denny and husband, Jacob; one great granddaughter, Anna Catherine Denny, all of Raleigh and many extended family and friends.

Edith was a faithful member of Burgaw United Methodist Church where for many years she was very active in the Molly Bryan Sunday School Class and was always supportive in all church activities. She was a retired elementary school teacher, teaching for many years in Burgaw.

Edith was a truly gracious Southern lady who loved her family, her church and her community; giving unceasingly of her time and talents. As long as her health permitted Edith volunteered with Pender Adult Services Meals On Wheels. Sewing and quilting were among Edith's many talents that she enjoyed. She counted her family as her richest blessing and focused her energies on caring for her family and mastering the art of homemaking. Cherished memories of Edith will forever remain in our hearts.

Funeral service will at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2012 at Burgaw United Methodist Church with The Reverend Laura Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. Casketbearers will be Jud Rouse, William Rivenbark, Allen Wooten, Harold Pollock and Mike Jones.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Friday in the church fellowship hall until hour of the service. At other times the family will be at the home of Sam and Cathy Harrell.
