Obituary

Edith Highsmith Wallace Monteiro, 85, of Burgaw passed peacefully from her earthly life to her heavenly home on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Pender Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 26, 1927 in Pender County, the daughter of the late Samuel Love and Addie Penny Highsmith. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Wallace and later married Anthony Monteiro who also preceded her in death. Also remembered are her sisters, Ethel Horrell and Edna Highsmith and brothers, Samuel, Edward and Ernest Highsmith, all who preceded Edith in death.

Edith is survived by her nieces and nephews, Annette Groves, Harvel Horrell, Carolyn Lanier, Eddie Horrell, Marlene Sizemore, Sue Davis and Jimmy Highsmith; sisters-in-law, Mary Highsmith and Irene Highsmith; and a very special friend, Raymond Nichols.

Edith loved her family dearly and was loved in return. Being a devoted Christian, she lived a life that exemplified her strong faith in Jesus Christ. She was quiet in word and deed; always willing to help others. Cherished memories of Edith will always remain in the hearts of family and friends.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Timothy Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Malpass Memorial Cemetery at Long Creek Baptist Church.

Casketbearers will be Gregory D. Lanier, Kevin Groves, Gregory A. Lanier, Brian Horrell, Phillip Groves, and Darrell Groves.

The family will receive friends on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home until hour of the service and at other times will be at the home of her niece, Carolyn Lanier.

Edith's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staffs of Ashe Gardens and Pender Memorial Hospital for the excellent loving care given to their dear Edith during her illness.
