Edith P. Williams, 92, of Currie entered into her eternal rest on Saturday, July 9, 2011. She was born January 2, 1919 in Pender County, the daughter of the late John Alexander and Alice Myrtle Carver Porter. Also remembered are her beloved husband of 64 years, George Whitley Williams; sisters, Ruth Saint-Amand and Blanche Lindsey; and brothers, Robert "Corky" Porter, Jay Porter, Earl Porter, and George "Buddy" Porter all who preceded Edie in death.
Edith was a devoted, unselfish loving mother to her two daughters, Sally W. Miller of Wilson and Linda W. Harris (Landon) of Myrtle Beach, SC. She is also survived by her grandson, Christopher Patrick Miller of Currie; granddaughter, Melissa K. Hatley of Clayton; great grandson, Christopher Austin Miller and great granddaughter, Angelique Star House. She was a devoted and loving "Edie Mama" to her grandson, Patrick, who took special care of her. Edie has one surviving brother, Richard "Pete" Porter (Ann) of Currie and two surviving sisters-in-law, Ella Porter and Hildred Porter. Edie is also survived by many nieces, nephews and her godson, Jimmy Saint-Amand. Edith was affectionately called many special names, Mama, Edie Mama, Grandma and GG (Great Grandmother).
Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Moores Creek Baptist Church with The Rev. Philip Eakins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Casketbearers will be nephews of Edith Williams. Honorary bearers will be special friends of Mrs. Williams. The family will receive friends one hour (2 to 3:00 p.m.) prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the church.
Flowers will be accepted, but memorials may be given to St. Judes Childrens Hospital, Tribute Program, PO Box 1000, Memphis, TN 38148 or to Moores Creek Baptist Church, C/O Kaye Nobles, 203 Bowers Lane, Currie NC 28435.
